Piaggio India has confirmed the addition of Vespa Sport variant to the Indian lineup. Currently, Piaggio offers the Vespa LX and Vespa VX models. The Vespa VX was introduced early this month with additional features over the LX model such as front disc brake, tubeless tyres, re-designed instrument cluster and raised chromed saddle handle bar. The Vespa Sport however, will have slightly different styling elements such as square shaped headlight and re-designed instrument cluster.
The Vespa Sport will retain the retro deisgn language and is likely to remain unchanged in terms of tech specs. It will be using the same engine powering the Vespa LX and VX. The engine is the 125cc, single-cylinder, 3-valve, air-cooled unit which produces 10.06 BHP of power and 10.06 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT automatic transmission. The Vespa Sport will use a monocoque steel chassis with single-side hydraulic front shock absorber and rear monoshock suspension.
The international version of the Vespa Sport comes equipped with a fuel injected, 150cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, air-cooled engine which produces 11.6 BHP of power and 11.5 Nm of torque. Piaggio India is expected to offer the Vespa Sport in black and white colour options. The launch is expected to happen in October this year with a slightly premium pricing over the Vespa VX model. Piaggio is also planning to bring in the range topping Vespa 946 via the CBU route, which has a unique styling and will come with a hefty premium price tag as well.
