Piaggio has all plans to introduce it’s Italian motorcycle brand Moto Guzzi in India debuting with a 1200cc Gran-Turismo bike. Moto Guzzi is one of the brands owned by Piaggio other than the famous Aprilia, Derbi and a few more to name. At the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, Piaggio had expressed its interest in bringing Moto Guzzi in India with the 1200 Norge GT, a tourer bike. This bike will be brought in India as a completely built unit (CBU). First launched in 2005, the Norge 1200 was developed for enhanced comfort, performance and handling. It provides immense riding pleasure without giving up comfort, it is fast and exciting to ride like a street bike, comfortable and safe just as a touring bike.
The Norge would sport a 1134cc, two-cylinder, DOHC engine oriented in the V-form. This engine provides a maximum power of 102 BHP and torque of 104 Nm. Moto Guzzi also has other offerings in various segments all of which sport a twin-cylinder engine. The Sports motorcycle market in India is definitely heating up with the likes of Honda, KTM, Yamaha and others competing with their world class products. Moto Guzzi should be yet another one. Although it’s CBU entry may restrict its sales in India.
Piaggio owned Aprilia brand of supersport bikes are also available in India, and Piaggio is on a revival mode to make Aprilia more prominent in the market. The company plans to introduce more Aprilia outlets around India providing service and spares availability. Aprilia currently imports its flagship model 1000cc superbike RSV Mille and the RSV4. Also available is the naked bike Tuono V4 R, Dorsoduro 1200, tourer Mana 850 and the automatic scooter, SRV 850 which comes with ABS. Aprilia also plans to introduce smaller bikes in the Indian market ranging in capacity from 125cc to 800cc.
