Piaggio has 250 sales outlets which they’re looking to increase to 350 by the end of this year.
Piaggio has plans to open 100 dealerships in India by the end of 2019. The Italian brand aims to have a total of 350 active dealerships across India, up from the current 250 sales outlets. Currently, the company has a poor spread of dealerships owing to the late re-entry of the brand in the Indian market.
Piaggio also faces some issues due to the new insurance rule and the upcoming safety regulations which have made their products costlier. The company is already selling premium scooters in India, but with these rules and regulations, prices of their products may be affected too.
Despite the fact that the sales of its premium offerings may get hampered due to strict rules and regulations, Piaggio does not want to get into the mass market segment. They sold 74,704 units of Aprilia and Vespa scooters in India in 2017-18. The company has a manufacturing plant in Baramati in Maharashtra, where it manufactures the iconic Vespa alongside the Aprilia SR 150.
