Piaggio Hints At Electric Aprilia Scooter By Filing eSR1 Trademark

The logo closely resembles the Aprilia SR logos

Piaggio has filed a trademark for the name eSR1 which may suggest that an electric Aprilia scooter might be in the works. The news further solidifies if you consider that Aprilia scooters already use the SR badging and an ‘e’ might denote the electric nature.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office published the trademark application recently, which had eSR1 logo in a special font. The office hasn’t revealed the applicant yet, but the logo clearly hints that the Piaggio Group indeed did the filing.

While one clue is the identical nomenclature which we mentioned above, the other clue is that Jacobacci & Partners S.P.A. filed the trademark application on the owners behalf. This is the same firm that handles Piaggio’s intellectual property matters.

Aprilia hasn’t entered the electric space yet, but it has plenty offerings in various engine specs. Piaggio owned Vespa group, on the other hand, has the Vespa Elettrica in the market, which means the eSR1 might take inspiration from the same, saving R&D costs.

We expect the eSR1 to use the same battery and motor from the electric Vespa but with a bump in performance as Aprilia scooters are usually sportier. The styling of the electric scooter will be radical as well, and a MotoGP replica might be available too.

Of course, we are just speculating this as trademark filings rarely give a clear idea of the product to follow. However, here the font and the design of the logo closely matches the existing Aprilia scooter logos, making us eager to see what they have planned.

We expect the Italian brand to unveil the scooter soon as a concept soon followed by an official launch. Sadly, we might not see this in India anytime soon as the electric scene is still catching up here.
