The first electric scooter from Ola should be competitively priced
Ola Electric has revealed its very first electric scooter, the Ola Scooter, through a video that it posted online.
In the short video, CEO of Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal is seen taking the scooter for a spin around the nation’s IT capital, Bengaluru.
The vehicle looks unlike anything else in the market, and is in no way flashy. Its body panels are smooth and the only blingy stuff on it are the LED lighting units.
Ola Electric claims its EV has class-leading acceleration, ergonomic seating and supreme ride comfort, while the footage also shows that 2 helmets can be stored under the seat.
The 2-wheeler brand had revealed official images of the electric scooter in March this year. But, it has been tight-lipped about the vehicle’s specifications ever since.
Since it is based on the AppScooter from Etergo EV (the brand purchased by Ola Electric in 2020), the EV is expected to come with the same features and powertrain.
Thus, there will be a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, music and navigation features and 3 battery modules, each providing 80 km range (when driven at 20 km).
Power should come from a 6 kW electric motor that makes 50 Nm of peak torque and the EV will ride on 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 110-section tyres. The stopping power will come from disc brakes at both ends.
The Ola Scooter will be manufactured at the firm’s ‘FutureFactory’, claimed to be the largest 2-wheeler plant in the world, that is coming up in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
Once the first phase of plant construction ends, Ola will begin manufacturing the scooter and subsequently put it on sale in the Indian market.
