What Maruti is to the passenger vehicle market, the Honda Activa is to the scooter market.
Quite in line with the rest of the automobile industry, the scooter market in India is consistently tumbling with no way to go. In November 2019, the top 10 selling scooters have recorded a cumulative decline of 4%. Even though the total number of sales stands at 4,22,818 units, it depicts a decline month after month.
What Maruti is to the passenger vehicle market, the Honda Activa is to the scooter market. It has been the undisputed chieftain for a long while and has managed to be at the top position again this month after selling 2,12,16 units. Even though it has recorded a decline of 3% YoY, the numbers are more than 4 times that of the scooter at the 2nd position!
Trailing far behind in terms of sales but second in terms of position is the Suzuki Acess with a YoY growth of 16% and 49,128 units sales. The 3rd and 4th positions are taken up by the Honda Dio and the TVS Jupiter with 10% and -41% YoY respectively. In October 2019, the former held the 4th position while the latter was on the 2nd. The last 3 positions are bagged by the Honda Grazia, the Suzuki Burgman and the Hero Destini. While Destini degrew by -52% YoY, Grazia and Burgman have positive 26% and 12% on their report card.
