Nissan has showcased the X-Trial Hybrid at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will launch the car in the Indian market soon priced between Rs. 32-35 lakhs.
With the growing consciousness towards air pollution, people have started realizing that conventional cars pollute a lot. This has led to an increase in demand of electric as well as hybrid cars. The Indian market has very few hybrid options but manufacturers are slowly getting these down to offer customer’s choice and to beat around government regulations.
The latest to join the bandwagon is Nissan which has showcased the X-Trail Hybrid at the ongoing Auto Expo. The X-Trail was sold in our market until a couple of years ago and was imported via the CBU route. While the new model was launched globally in 2013, it didn’t come to India citing cost as the reason.
Launching a diesel SUV at a high price point with a lot of competition in the market isn’t an ideal situation. Hence, the Japanese manufacturer will launch the hybrid variant of the X-Trail which will face no competition. The Nissan X-Trail in its hybrid avatar is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor to collectively produce 189 PS of power and 367 Nm of torque.
Nissan’s 4WD system comes as standard and a CVT gearbox is on offer. To be imported as a CBU, the SUV will come loaded with gizmos which will make it a good package for a small segment of buyers. It will indirectly compete with the Honda CR-V. The price is expected to be in the range of Rs. 32-35 lakhs due to the high import duties.
