The Nissan X-Trail Hybrid will be launched in the next financial year and it will be the first ever full hybrid SUV for the Indian market.
The Nissan X-Trail Hybrid was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo along with the GT-R where the Japanese manufacturer announced that both the vehicles will be launched in India by the end of the current financial year. Just a week later, the automaker revealed the brochure of this hybrid crossover which discloses all the details.
The Nissan X-Trail Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-litre, MR20DD, 16-valve, fuel-injected petrol engine that produces 144 PS at 6000 RPM and 200 Nm of torque at 4400 RPM and this mill is paired with an AC electric motor that produces another 31 kW or 40.8 PS and 160 Nm of torque, mated to the manufacturer’s X-Tronic CVT gearbox.
The petrol powerplant in the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid kicks in as soon as the battery of the electric motor is low and the same motor is used to produce power and regenerate energy. The engine is turned off when we release the accelerator for better mileage. It is equipped with a number of safety features such as hill start control, active engine braking, Active Ride Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control, etc.
The Nissan X-Trail is 4640 mm long, 1820 mm wide and 1710 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2705 mm and a ground clearance of 210 mm. The X-Trail will be offered with two rows and five seats and has a kerb weight of 1538 kgs. The crossover rides on 17-inch wheels wrapped on 225/65/R17 tyres with disc brakes on all the four wheels.
Nissan entered the Indian market with the X-Trail, however it was never able to impress buyers and hence discontinued the model in 2014. But the growing popularity of SUVs in the Indian market seems to have changed the automaker’s decision. The compact SUV is expected to be priced between Rs. 30-35 lakhs and will take on the likes of the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1.
