Nissan will launch the 4th gen X-Trail in India in August and we are driving this car later today. The Japanese automaker has showcased the vehicle and also stated their future product plans.
Talking about the X-Trail first, this model came out globally in 2021 and is being launched in India now as a CBU. The automaker stated that they have already imported the vehicles and kept them ready at their Chennai plant so that buyers can get quick delivery. The vehicle gets 3 colours – black, white and champagne.
The Nissan X-Trail comes with a 7-seater configuration and the third row seats can be reclined. The vehicle gets a flat floor too. The second row seats can also be reclined and slid. The vehicle gets fabric upholstery instead of leather. In terms of equipment, it gets a dual-pane sunroof, wireless charger, digital cluster, touchscreen, keyless go, 20-inch wheels, etc.
Under the hood is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, petrol engine making 163 PS and 300 Nm. This engine comes with a variable compression turbo and is the world’s first engine to get this. The vehicle gets a CVT and a standard front wheel drive configuration. It doesn’t get a strong hybrid powertrain.
The brand will announce the X-Trail’s pricing in the coming weeks and pricing is going to be a very important factor in deciding how relevant this car is going to be for Indian buyers. It will give competition to the Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
Nissan is also working on the Magnite facelift, a new compact SUV with 5-seater and 7-seater options and a new affordable electric car. All of these are expected to be launched before 2026-end.
What do you guys think of the X-Trail and what should be an appropriate price point?
