Nissan Russia will be launching the Terrano SUV (based on the Renault Duster) in Russia this year. The spy shots carried by Terrano Club showed the test vehicles of the Terrano at the company’s Avtoframos manufacturing plant in the country, where the Duster is also produced. The images show the Terrano test vehicles parked in the factory area. It is believed that Nissan has also commenced trial production of the SUV at the facility.
Nissan will offer the petrol and diesel versions of the Terrano in Russia when launched. The 1.6-litre petrol engine makes 102 PS of power, while the 2.0-litre petrol engine (not available in India) makes 135 PS of power. The k9k diesel engine is capable of churning out 85 PS and 110 PS of power. While we expect a majority of the features to be the same on the Russian version of the SUV; the Russians can expect a 4×4 variant to be offered as an option. The automatic variant of the SUV was also spotted as seen in the images. Nissan is most likely to offer the automatic gearbox on the petrol variants of the SUV.
Nissan currently manufactures the Terrano in India at its Chennai facility alongside the Duster. Expect a similar case in Russia as well; the SUV will be produced at the Avtoframos facility where the Duster too is locally made. It also makes financial sense to produce the cars locally for the market to keep the pricing more lucrative. Nissan is most likely to launch the Terrano at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show that will be held in August this year, with sales to commence soon after. The Terrano starts at Rs. 9.79 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) in India.
