Nissan has been doing decent numbers with the Micra. However the real boom is in the C-segment, where the company lacks any presence. The Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and Maruti SX4 are fighting out for market share in the upper end of the C-Segment, where the new 2011 Ford Fiesta is expected to join this month. Seeing huge opportunity, Nissan India has realized the need to enter this segment as soon as possible. Thus the company has announced the launch of its new global sedan by December, 2011. The company plans to increase its dealership network from 36 to 100 by the end of the year.
“The new global sedan will be based on the same platform as that of Micra and will be built from our existing plant at Chennai. Next year, we are planning to come out with our first multi-purpose vehicle through our joint venture with Ashok Leyland,” Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD, Nissan India, said.
