The Nissan GT-R has been spotted arriving at the dealerships ahead of the car’s launch later this year
The new Nissan GT-R has started arriving at the company’s dealerships ahead of the supercar’s apparent launch on November 9. This comes after Nissan organised a private test drive for potential customers in New Delhi last month.
The GT-R got its most significant overhaul to date since its 2007 launch, at the New York Auto Show earlier this year. The focus has primarily been on improving the aesthetic appeal and touring characteristics of the vehicle.
The exterior gets a new front bumper with the Nissan “V Motion” signature grille, a re-sculpted hood, slightly tweaked rear diffuser and 20-inch forged aluminium wheels wrapped around in super-sticky Dunlop tyres. Inside, the cabin has been simplified with fewer buttons (reduced from 27 to 11) and a simpler yet larger infotainment screen. The paddles are now mounted on the steering wheel, which will attract diverse opinions from the GT-R purists.
Under the hood, GT-R carries over the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 unit, but some fiddling with the ECU and ignition timing means that it now produces 565 HP of power and 637 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all the wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox that has been tuned for smoother shifts. The sprint from 0-100 km/hr takes less than three seconds with a top-speed of 315 km/hr.
The suspension of the GT-R has been softened, which means that the ride is going to be more compliant. Some journalists have criticised this move but Nissan has been clear about how it wants the GT-R to be a more practical supercar so that its owners can use it everyday.
India will get the European-spec Premium Edition model with option of seven exterior paints. The price of the 2017 GT-R hasn’t been officially confirmed but it is likely to be around Rs. 1.99 crore (ex-showroom), which will undercut the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Audi R8 V10 Plus.
Interestingly, despite the GT-R having a massive following in India, this is the first time it will be officially sold in the country. Nissan blames this delay to poor fuel quality and the inability to provide competitive after-sales services to the owners (word has it, the current GT-R owners have to rely on engineers flowing in from Dubai to service the car).
