The Nio ET5 will go on sale in China by September 2022 and will be introduced in Europe come 2023
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio has revealed the ET5, a midsize sedan that comes with up to 1000 km claimed range.
Featuring a fastback silhouette, the EV has a sharp nose, integrated LED headlights, double-dash DRLs, frameless windows, soft-close doors, flush door handles, slim and full-width tail light, a ducktail spoiler and an all-glass roof.
The car comes with 9 exterior colour options and 6 interior shades, while Nio says every ET5 it makes has sustainable fabric made from 100 recycled PET bottles on the inside.
Further, the cabin features a rather ordinary steering wheel, hidden air vents and speakers, sporty seats (with optional heating, ventilation and massage) and features such as a digital instrument cluster, 12.8-inch touchscreen, NOMI assistant, ambient lighting and panoramic immersive AR/VR experience.
Underpinned by the Technology Platform 2.0, the electric sedan comes with a dual motor setup with a combined output of 360 kW (483 BHP) – 150 kW (201 BHP) motor up front and 210 kW (282 BHP) at the back – and 700 Nm of torque.
Interestingly, Nio will sell the ET5 with 3 battery options – a 75 kWh pack with 550 km range, 100 kWh pack offering 700 km range and a 150 kWh pack providing 1000 km range.
Do note that the claimed range is as per China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) estimates. Further, the EV does the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 4.3 seconds, and even features 8 drive modes such as Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport+, Snow, Sand, Wet and Custom.
Like any modern EV, the ET5 also comes loaded with cameras, sensors, radars, and even an ultralong-range LiDAR to enable the car to take the reins when the driver sees fit.
The Tesla Model 3 rival comes with a base asking price of 328,000 yuan (Rs. 38.90 lakhs) before government subsidies in China. However, with a leased battery, the car costs from 258,000 yuan (Rs. 30.60 lakhs).
