Next Generation Suzuki Alto/A-Star Caught Testing

The next generation Suzuki Alto/A-Star has been caught testing in a fully camouflaged avatar. According to sources, the manufacturer is keen on increasing the length and height of the next generation hatchback significantly, in order to offer generous cabin space. The hatchback will now boast a tall boy stance with a spacious boot design offering as much space as possible. This will be a good step forward for the company as the existing A-Star (Alto in international markets) doesn’t offer enough cabin space for tall passengers and lacks adequate boot space.

The next generation A-Star is expected to be 1550 mm tall with an increased length to around 3650 mm and a longer wheelbase over the current 2360 mm. Suzuki will be positioning the new hatchback under sub B-segment with slightly increased prices in some markets. Suzuki’w Alto is one of the best selling cars in the world but hasn’t worked well in the Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki A-Star has lost its presence in the Indian market and an upgrade is much awaited.

A sub-four metre sedan is also expected out of the A-Star and is expected to roll out with a diesel engine in the Indian market. The next generation Alto is expected to offer new interiors as well as exteriors featuring the 1000cc K-Series petrol motor and an entry level diesel engine, which is currently under development. With good reliability of the Maruti Suzuki brand, the new A-Star is expected to churn out decent volumes and will hit the roads during the year 2014.
