Japanese automaker Mitsubishi will be launching the new Pajero Sport in India by mid-2017 and it will be brought down via the CKD route.
Mitsubishi has always had some really fun-to-drive cars in its kitty but the company faced a lot of tough time in our market due to various reasons. The new Pajero Sport was unveiled just recently and it comes across as a very drastic change when compared to the current version which will soon be phased out. While we all have been waiting with anticipation for the new SUV to hit our shores soon, the latest news floating around states that the vehicle will not be launched before mid-2017. Which means we are still almost two years away from the SUV!
The third generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport comes with a very striking design that may appeal to some and may not be fancied by some. While the current model has very butch exteriors, the new one gets a posh look with a blend of many styling elements. The interiors have also been significantly revamped and a lot of new features have been added. On the mechanical front, the SUV gets a 2.4-litre MIVEC engine that belts out 181 PS of power and 431 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The vehicle also gets a Super Select 4WD II system.
Mitsubishi is performing very poorly in India. There is lack of product awareness among the masses, and even those people who like their vehicles are not ready to buy thanks to uncertainty of the company’s future and also lack of a proper service network. The new Pajero Sport will be competing with the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. The next generation Fortuner and Endeavour will be launched in India in 2016 itself while the Trailblazer will be launched later this year. Also, all of these rivals have far better service than Mitsubishi. The Pajero Sport will be brought down via the CKD route and will be assembled at Hindustan Motors’ plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
