The next generation Jaguar XF will be significantly lighter over the outgoing model using the new family of 4-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel engines.
Jaguar’s BMW 5-Series rivaling sedan the XF is heading towards the end of its life cycle and now news comes on the next generation model that is scheduled to go on sale globally in 2016. Ahead of its official launch, the Tata owned British car maker will be unveiling the next generation XF at the New York Motor Show in April 2015, which will be significantly lighter over the outgoing model, while also featuring a more familiar design language seen on the XE and C-X17 concept from Jaguar’s stable.
The 2016 Jaguar XF will get a sharper design language over the outgoing version taking heavy inspiration from the all-new XE. Expect to see a wider front grille with sleeker and sweptback headlights, while the bulbous bonnet will feature strong character lines for a dominant look. The company however, will retain the coupe like roofline from the outgoing XF along with the notchback styled rear. It is reported that the idea is to keep a familiar design language on all Jaguar models in order to make the brand more recognisable in newer markets.
The 2016 Jaguar XF will be underpinned by the new iQ platform that also underpins the new XE sedan. With an aluminium intensive chassis designed to save weight, the new XF will be considerably lighter without having to compromise on strength and agility. The new family of Ingenium petrol and diesel engines that were showcased earlier this year will also feature on the new XF contributing further to weight savings of around 100-150 kgs, compared to the current model. The weight savings will also help in terms of performance on the more powerful XFR and XFR-S models that are most likely to sport the bigger V8’s once again.
On the inside though, the next generation model will be equipped with well appointed interiors sporting the new InControl infotainment system and a new heads-up display. In addition, the car will sport a host of creature comforts including a state-of-the-art audio system. With Jaguar aiming to expand is global base; the next generation XF will provide a major boost especially in the premium executive sedan space currently ruled by the Mercedes E-Class and the likes. In the Indian context, the 2016 XF is most likely to debut in the country by late 2016, after the smaller XE goes on sale.
