With international brands launching their offerings in India, Ford too is in the league. The company is working towards launching the next generation Figo. It has been code named B562. It is expected to roll out of the upcoming plant in Sanand, Gujarat by 2014. It will compete with its rivals in B-plus segment. Initially the model will be launched in Brazil by 2013, as it has been designed at the Ford’s design centre in Brazil.
The next generation Figo will be powered by the award winning EcoBoost Powertrain technology. The same also powers the EcoSport SUV which has been code named B515, all set to launch in India by early 2013. It would be the smallest ever engine which delivers high performance with low fuel consumption. Recently, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine won the ‘International Engine of the Year 2012 award’. Also, it was adjudged the “Best New Engine”.
Ford’s futuristic plan is to incorporate the EcoBoost Powertrain technology in all its upcoming models. As, the plans are in place for the petrol engine, Ford Figo’s diesel variant, which has been code named B562, is expected to house the Duratorq TDCi (DV) 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Currently,this engine powers the well-known Fiesta. The present Figo diesel is equipped with 1.4-litre Duratorq. Ford also has plans to launch a mini-MPV by 2015-16.
