Bajaj Dominar to get a new platform, more features to improve long distance riding
Bajaj Auto is preparing to elevate its Dominar 400 to a more premium segment, leveraging an all new platform for the next generation model. This strategic move comes in the wake of the recent launch of the Pulsar NS400Z, which has created a new entry point into the 400cc performance segment. The Pulsar NS400Z, significantly more affordable than other motorcycles in the 350-400cc range, including the Dominar 400, is reshaping Bajaj’s market dynamics.
During the launch of the Pulsar NS400Z, Bajaj Auto’s Executive Director, Rakesh Sharma, highlighted the company’s future plans for the Dominar 400. Sharma noted that while the Dominar series will be pushed to new heights of excellence, it may also become less accessible to a broader audience. He emphasised that the Pulsar range would cater to those looking for performance at a more affordable price point, acknowledging some overlap with the Dominar but downplaying its potential impact on sales.
The Dominar 400 was initially launched with the intent of capturing market share from Royal Enfield. However, Bajaj has since repositioned the Dominar as a touring motorcycle, incorporating numerous features to enhance long distance riding. Despite this repositioning, Bajaj’s new collaboration with Triumph, particularly with the Triumph 400 models, is now the company’s primary strategy for competing against Royal Enfield.
As for the upcoming Dominar 400, details remain scarce. It is expected that the next-generation model will not be based on any of Bajaj’s existing platforms, suggesting significant upgrades and innovations. While the launch is still some time away, Bajaj enthusiasts can anticipate a motorcycle that aims to set new standards in its class.
Bajaj’s dual approach of refining the Dominar for the premium market while making the Pulsar NS400Z more accessible reflects a strategic balancing act, catering to both ends of the performance motorcycle spectrum. This strategy not only broadens their market appeal but also solidifies their foothold in the competitive 400cc segment.
