The TVS Scooty has always been a favourite with women when it comes to automatic scooters in India. The upcoming new version of the Scooty (called the Scooty Zest) has been spied recently near Hosur in Tamil Nadu where TVS has a manufacturing plant located. The prototype scooter is an all-new generation of the Scooty series. The Chennai based company sold nearly 18 lakh units last year and hopes to sell more than 20 lakh units this year with the launch of its new scooter, the TVS Jupiter. Sales for the company are only expected to boost with the launch of the TVS Scooty in 2014.
The Scooty has been moderately redesigned in comparison to the existing variant and this can be noticed on the prototype of the product. The covers are off from the mirrors on the new 2014 TVS Scooty. However, the indicators seemed to have been carried off straight from the existing variant onto the new scooter. The body on the rear portion of the scooter has been redesigned with new panels. The seats on the new scooter are much more wider and spacious in comparison to the outgoing scooter. The footrest up front is shaped in a different angle on the sides whereas the rear passenger footrests are located higher on the upcoming Scooty.
Rear grab rails on the 2014 TVS Scooty are situated on the same line as that of the seat albeit in a smaller dimension. Telescopic forks make up for the front suspension while a single hydraulic shock absorber is positioned at the rear. The 2014 Scooty will carry over the same motor present on the current generation scooter though in a much more refined state. An 88cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder engine producing 5 BHP of power at 6500 RPM and 5.8 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM is expected to be used. Electric start will be optional over the regular kick start variants. TVS hopes to capture 20 percent of the scooter market by next year and the all-new Scooty is expected to stimulate the required sales numbers for the company.
