Suzuki Motor Corporation have revealed their strategy for the next 10 years and it has been stated that the next generation Alto will be lighter and more efficient than before. Globally, the Alto is in its 8th generation and it is also one of the most popular cars on sale in India.
The current generation Alto was launched by Maruti Suzuki in India in 2022 and it is lighter than the previous generation of the hatchback due to its Heartect platform. The vehicle currently has a kerb weight of around 680 kgs and the Japanese automaker will further reduce it by 100 kgs by tweaking the platform.
With reduced weight, the fuel efficiency of the vehicle will go up. The Alto is anyway one of the most fuel efficient cars on sale and that number will go up. With the new gen Alto, one can probably expect 30 km/l too.
The automaker will use lightweight components for the engine and chassis. The new Z-Series engine on the Swift is also lighter than the older K-Series engine and the Z family of engines will soon make its way to other Suzuki cars.
Suzuki is also working on an improved version of the Heartect platform to improve its crash worthiness. The crumple zones are likely to be redesigned to improve passenger safety in the event of a crash.
The automaker is also likely to introduce EV and hybrid powertrains with the Alto. Instead of placing all their bets on BEVs, Suzuki will introduce more hybrids in the market.
