The next generation Mahindra XUV500 will be built on a new platform developed jointly with SsangYong.
The Mahindra Scorpio is a legendary name in the Indian automobile circuit and has been performing well for over a decade. On the contrary, the XUV500 is a relatively newer name but has managed to get amazing response and sales numbers due to its eye-catchy and refreshing design. Interestingly, M&M will be introducing the new generation models of both the SUVs in 2020.
The Mahindra Scorpio (codenamed Z101), in its 4th iteration, will be built on an updated version of the ladder-frame chassis. Moreover, since this new generation version would spawn a pickup truck for the international market, the styling is expected to be in-line with the global market trend.
Mechanically, the company may consider adding a petrol engine to the lineup that currently has diesel options only. Further, an automatic transmission may also join the setup, which is not offered in the current generation.
Coming to the new generation Mahindra XUV500 (codenamed W601), it would be launched alongside the Scorpio and will be built on a new platform developed in collaboration with SsangYong. The frame will be very rigid and the structure would be sturdier than the currently sold model. The platform might even allow the company to use an electric powertrain in the future.
The variant lineup presently has just one petrol trim, which might not be the case following the new generation launch. Both the diesel and petrol engines would be developed to comply with the BS6 emission norms.
As of now, the exact launch date or specifications are not out. Expect them to come by with the course of time.
