Maruti Suzuki will launch the next gen Vitara Brezza in 2022 as part of its utility vehicle onslaught that it has planned for the next three years.
Starting mid-2021, the carmaker will launch five new products including three SUVs, a crossover and an MPV and they will be launched every six months till 2023.
First up, will come the new MPV which is being co-developed with Toyota, and will also be sold by Toyota as a separate model, followed by three products in 2022.
In the first half of the year, a crossover will be launched and following that would be the 2022 Maruti Vitara Brezza launch. In the same year, a Hyundai Creta-rivalling midsize SUV will hit the market.
Finally, in the year 2023, the India-made 5-door Jimny will be introduced, to complete the slew of launches in the utility vehicle segment.
Like in the hatchback segment, the products are expected to be priced closely so as to give buyers various choices within a said price bracket.
This move from Maruti is driven by changing buyer preference and despite being the top automaker in the country, the carmaker knows it cannot rest on its laurels.
The firm knows that the Korean carmakers Hyundai and Kia are rapidly clawing market share in the compact and midsize SUV segment and that it needs to bring in new products to hold onto its top spot for years to come.
