The next generation Honda Amaze compact sedan will borrow many styling cues from the larger City.

2018 Honda Amaze
The next-gen Amaze is a part of Honda’s plan to introduce 6 new models in India over the next 3 years

Honda is all set to make the second-generation Amaze a plusher and spacious compact sedan. The Amaze was first launched in 2013 but many people found the looks and interiors a bit quirky. A facelift in 2016 with a new dashboard did change those views but with the second generation Honda is targeting for a completely premium look and feel for the Amaze. The Japanese automaker is likely to give the second-generation Amaze a sophisticated dashboard design and higher quality materials in the cabin.

The carmaker is also aiming to increase the width of the car so three occupants can sit abreast in the rear seat. As it is, the car is already one of the most spacious compact sedans. Extra space in the cabin will definitely give the Amaze an advantage over its rivals. Being built on the same platform, other dimensions of the vehicle are expected to remain the same. The car will still measure under 4-metres in length. Borrowing styling cues from the City, expect the Amaze to get a new chrome-rich grille, sharper looking headlights (probably with LED DRLs), new alloy wheels and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Coming to the powertrains, the second generation Honda Amaze will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines. An automatic gearbox is also expected to be offered right from launch. Expect the second-generation Amaze to be launched in India sometime in 2018. The Honda Amaze rivals the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Aspire.
