With the current generation Fiat Punto on its way out, the company has begun testing the next generation of the vehicle but it won’t be launched in India soon.
The current generation Fiat Punto has been around for ages now. The vehicle got a major facelift in the form of the Punto Evo but even that model has been around for too long in overseas markets. The next generation Fiat Punto has now been spotted undergoing some testing and it is very likely that the new model will be introduced next year. The Fiat Punto is a great vehicle when it comes to driving feel but it hasn’t really seen much success in India thanks to the reputation of its maker in the country.
The vehicle that we see in the spy pictures is carrying a lot of camouflage and it is difficult to make out various elements and components of the vehicle. Under the heavy camouflage, there could be a lot hiding and who knows Fiat might have made some really drastic changes to the next generation Punto premium hatchback. Also, we can only see the headlights and tail lights of the vehicle. It is very much possible that the Italian auto giant has increased the length and width of the vehicle to make it more spacious.
The all new Fiat Punto will be launched globally in 2016. However, it won’t be introduced in India anytime soon. Just recently, Fiat India mentioned that they will focus more on current products and there are no new launches lined up. Now that the current Punto has been accepted by our market as a dud, there is really no point in carrying on with the same product with hopes pinned. Instead, Fiat should act swiftly and launch the next generation Punto here as well. The new Punto won’t be called by the same name, it is likely to be a part of the 500 family.
