The next generation Toyota Hilux has been spotted uncamouflaged recently. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is expected to receive the same changes to the exteriors as the Hilux due to platform sharing.
The Toyota Fortuner has been a very successful SUV for Toyota since the day it was launched. The Fortuner sells in great numbers in all the markets it is sold in. In India, the Fortuner has always maintained a big lead over the competition since the day it was launched here. Toyota has been able to sell over 1000 units of the SUV every month in India. The major selling points for the Fortuner are its butch looks and Toyota’s reliability tag. The SUV has received a couple of mid-life facelifts over the past years making it look a bit fresher.
This is about to change. We have got a glimpse of the new Toyota Hilux, a pick-up truck with which the Fortuner shares a lot of components. It is very likely that the updates given to the Hilux would be given to the next generation Fortuner too. When we look at the spy picture, we can notice that the front end has received a lot of changes. The headlamps are totally new and so is the grille. Along with these two changes, the bumper has been tweaked too. These changes match with the spy pics which came earlier. We expect the Fortuner to get these changes along with some other major changes.
The Fortuner has been around for quite a long time now in its current avatar. Owners have complained about the utilitarian but sparsely kitted interiors and harsh ride quality. Toyota should concentrate on these two aspects and make sure these are improved in the next-gen Fortuner which is set to be launched early next year at the 2016 Auto Expo. Toyota recently added new variants to the Fortuner lineup. The new variants are – 2.5-litre 4×2 AT and MT and 3.0-litre 4×4 AT. These variants are expected to bring in more volumes for the SUV until the next generation Fortuner is launched.
