The Volkswagen compact sedan gets a three-box design and shares a lot with the Polo. The reveal is scheduled for the 2016 Auto Expo.
Probably Volkswagen’s most dedicated attempt at introducing a mass market product in India, the automaker has been working on a compact sedan based on the Vento platform that will be revealed at the Auto Expo in early February. While details on the upcoming model aren’t officially out yet, the previous spy shots have revealed quite a lot and the latest set of images further give a glimpse at the side profile of the model that essentially looks like a boot-cut Vento.
The Volkswagen compact sedan will be featuring the same design language as its siblings but the front grille and bumper have been revised to differentiate the model visually. The side profile remains the same as the other offerings up till the C-pillar while the boot gets cut down to fit under the 4-metre mark in a bid to comply with the excise duty norms. The car gets double barrel headlamps like the Vento while the tail lamps come from the Polo.
The Volkswagen compact sedan’s interior has already been revealed in spy shots and shares a host of equipment with the Polo. The cabin is finished in a beige and black scheme (could be restricted to the top variants) and gets a multi-function flat bottom steering wheel and 2-DIN audio system with multiple connectivity options. The driver seat height adjustment feature and the popular passenger seat adjustment lever for rear occupants could also make it to the vehicle.
Engine options will include the 1.2-litre MPI petrol and 1.5-litre TDI diesel engines on the Volkswagen compact sedan, both of which will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The automaker could go one step forward to offer the 7-speed DSG automatic on the petrol motor that will rival the automatic versions of the Ford Figo Aspire, Maruti DZire, Honda Amaze and the likes in the segment. Complete details, pricing and delivery period are expected to be announced at the Auto Expo.
