New Spy Shots Reveal Production Ready Maruti Suzuki Y9T LCV

Set to make its foray in the promising light commercial vehicle (LCV) space, Maruti Suzuki has been aggressively working on its LCV codenamed ‘Y9T’. While the body shell was spotted few weeks ago at one of Maruti’s facilities, these new spy shots reveal the production ready design of the Y9T commercial vehicle. In comparison to the body shell, there are no changes visible to the vehicle; however, the front fascia of the production ready LCV gets single barrel headlights reminiscent to the Omni and a black front bumper completing the look.

The Maruti Y9T LCV test mule spotted did miss on certain production parts, but we expect the front fascia to look like a cross between the international Carry LCV and the familiar Omni when launched in the country. The LCV features a low and flat deck to haul luggage and will come with a payload capacity of around 800 kgs. Powering the LCV will be the new 792cc twin-cylinder diesel engine that has been co-developed by engineers at Maruti Suzuki in India and Japan. The diesel engine will also feature a small turbocharger to keep the power levels at an optimum, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Also powering the Maruti Y9T LCV will be the 1.2-litre petrol unit from the Eeco, while a CNG compatible variant is also said to be in the works. The new diesel engine though is expected to be a frugal unit returning an impressive fuel economy of 25-30 km/l. Apart from the LCV, the new diesel powerplant will also find application on Maruti’s passenger vehicles starting with the Celerio hatchback with both the models set to be launched in the first quarter of 2015 in India. The Maruti Y9T will be competing against the Mahindra Maxximo and Tata Ace in the LCV segment.
