New Renault Duster Engine Details Revealed, No Diesel

2024 Renault Duster

New Renault Duster and Nissan sibling engine details revealed

Renault and Nissan have recently disclosed their plans to introduce new models, including the highly anticipated next generation Renault Duster and its Nissan counterpart. While enthusiasts might have been hoping for a diverse array of powertrain options, the companies have opted for a petrol-only lineup, signalling a shift in strategy.

Scheduled for a late 2025 release, the new Renault Duster and its Nissan counterpart are expected to get distinct exterior designs with latest tech on offer. Both models will be powered by turbo-petrol engines, with the entry-level variant likely to feature a 1.0-litre unit and the bigger 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will cater to those seeking higher performance levels.

The decision to forego diesel options, including the renowned K9K diesel engine, might come as a surprise to some, given the popularity of diesel-powered SUVs in the Indian market. However, Renault and Nissan seem determined to capitalise on the growing demand for petrol-powered vehicles, aligning with global trends towards electrification and cleaner technologies.

In addition to the petrol lineup, there are discussions surrounding the potential introduction of hybrid powertrains, although details regarding this remain scarce. The companies are likely weighing the feasibility and cost implications of such a move before committing to hybrid technology.

Underpinning these upcoming SUVs is the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-B platform. By heavily localising production, Renault and Nissan aim to offer competitive pricing in the crowded segment.

While the absence of diesel options might raise eyebrows among traditionalists, Renault and Nissan are banking on a combination of design innovation, aggressive pricing and technological advancements to carve out a niche in the fiercely competitive midsize SUV segment.

With a planned launch timeline starting from late 2025, Renault and Nissan are gearing up to challenge players like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and the likes. It remains to be seen how consumers will respond to the petrol-only approach and whether Renault and Nissan can indeed cultivate a dedicated following in this highly contested market segment.
