The next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift was showcased at Geneva, will be launched in India in 2018.
The all-new Maruti Swift was put on display at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The hatchback is India bound and it is likely to be launched at the 2018 Auto Expo. The vehicle will now share its platform with the Baleno and Ignis and it will weigh lighter than the Baleno.
On the outside and inside, there are numerous changes that make the new Swift a better car than the current generation. It gets major styling changes and the interiors have been revamped. The equipment list will also get longer. Maruti will tune the car for Indian conditions and thus ground clearance could be increased too.
On the mechanical front, it will continue to come with the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. However, the Swift will now get an automatic transmission option with both the engines. Later on, the hatchback is expected to get a sportier version too, though engine details aren’t confirmed. There is also a possibility of Maruti plonking in a bigger 1.5-litre diesel engine at a later stage.
The new Maruti Swift will be sold through the regular dealerships because the automaker wants to target a larger audience with the car. It will compete with the Hyundai Grand i10, Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo.
