Mahindra’s upcoming SUV has been spotted testing and it is either the new XUV500 or XUV400.

Gets a comparatively sleeker air dam and tight overhangs

A new and heavily camouflaged Mahindra vehicle has been spotted testing in India. However, it’s quite unsure if, what looks like a full-size SUV, is the next-gen XUV500 or the XUV300 7-seater (XUV400). The latter (codenamed S204) will be a reworked version of the SsangYong XLV, which is underpinned by the SsangYong Tivoli’s platform.

This recently spotted vehicle features the Mahindra-family grille, dummy headlamps and steel rims. The fact that it looks quite big and no sneak peek of the interior, fuels all the confusion. The vehicle gets a comparatively sleeker air dam and tight overhangs. The license plate area has been moved onto the tailgate which is visibly more sculpted with roof rails and a shark fin antenna.

It is rumoured that the vehicle is likely to get a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine. Speculations are rife that the platform on which this new Mahindra offering is built, will be shared by Ford as well.

With this new SUV in its kitty, Mahindra will be locking horns with the Tata Hexa, Honda BR-V, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Maruti Suzuki XL6. It will also rival the next-gen Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the MG Hector.
