New Honda motorcycle will be unveiled first, followed by launch few weeks later
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is gearing up to launch a new motorcycle on August 2, 2023. While specific details about the new model are yet to be revealed, it is expected to be launched in the 150-180cc motorcycle segment of the Indian market. The new bike will be revealed first and then commence deliveries by the festive season.
Honda currently offers two engines within the targeted displacement range – a 162.7cc unit powering the Honda Unicorn 160 and a 184.4cc engine powering the CB Hornet 2.0. It is speculated that the new motorcycle will adopt one of these existing engines.
While the specific performance figures for the new model are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to deliver similar output as its counterparts in the Honda lineup. The Unicorn 160, with its 162.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, delivers 12.73 BHP and 14 Nm of torque. In contrast, the Hornet 2.0, having a 184.4cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor, produces 17.03 BHP and 16.1 Nm of torque.
The Japanese bike maker is expected to introduce the new product under an existing brand name, a strategy that Honda has recently applied with the launch of the Shine 100.
Considering the current market dynamics, pricing is expected to play a vital role in the new motorcycle’s launch. It is speculated that the starting price for the model will be in the range of Rs. 1.05-1.15 lakhs (ex-showroom). This positioning will place the motorcycle between Honda Unicorn 160 and CB Hornet 2.0, catering to riders seeking a middle-ground option in terms of performance and pricing.
Recently there were another reports of Honda introducing SP160 motorcycle based on the Unicorn. It might be the same motorcycle or something totally different.
