Maruti Suzuki is said to have deferred the launch of the 2021 Celerio due to delays from the suppliers’ end.
While it was expected that the car will be launched around Diwali this year, now, it is said that the hatchback will go on sale during the early part of 2021 and we can say for sure that COVID-19 has had a part to play in this matter.
The next generation Celerio will be underpinned by the “Heartect” platform from Maruti and thus will grow in size and come with new exterior styling.
This will translate into more space inside the cabin that will also be restyled and updated with more features to bring it in line with the current crop of hatchbacks that the car will compete against.
Features such as Maruti SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system, automatic AC, multi-function steering wheel and rear-view camera are expected to be offered with the car.
Similarly, on the outside, it will get projector headlights, ORVMs with indicators, LED tail lamps and a rear wiper. We can expect more safety kit to be offered as standard.
Powering the car would be two petrol motors and they are – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, 68 HP engine and a 1.2-litre 83 HP unit. There will be two gearbox options as well – a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
When it happens, the 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio launch will pit it against rivals such as the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, among others in the budget hatchback class.
