New gen Jeep Compass electric to offer up to 700 km of claimed range
Stellantis gears up to introduce the next generation of the Jeep Compass SUV to the Indian market in 2026. Codenamed J4U, this iteration of the Compass promises to be a game-changer, particularly with the inclusion of an all-electric variant.
Underpinning this anticipated release is Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, a versatile architecture designed with electrification in mind. This platform not only accommodates internal combustion engine (ICE) setups but also integrates electric powertrains.
The STLA Medium platform supports both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations. Additionally, it offers substantial flexibility in battery sizes, with options ranging up to 98kWh. This translates to substantial driving ranges, exceeding 700 km.
One of the key highlights of this platform is its efficient 400-Volt electric architecture, known for its low energy consumption and rapid charging capabilities. With a charging rate of 2.4kWh per minute, owners can recharge their vehicles from 20% to 80% in just 27 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum convenience.
Moreover, the STLA Medium platform comes with electric motors delivering between 218 HP and 388 HP.
In addition to the electrification push, the next-gen Jeep Compass is expected to offer traditional turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, providing consumers with a comprehensive array of choices to suit their needs.
Beyond Jeep, Stellantis’ sister brand Citroen is poised to leverage the STLA Medium platform for its upcoming models in India, further emphasising the platform’s adaptability and versatility across different segments.
Furthermore, there are speculations about the potential revival of the Fiat brand in India, leveraging the STLA M platform for future offerings. This strategic move could mark a resurgence for Fiat, leveraging existing manufacturing infrastructure and capitalising on brand recognition in the Indian market.
