As part of its product rejig, Honda will launch the 2022 model year HR-V compact SUV, the upcoming third-generation model to be precise, in India.
The carmaker had on Wednesday announced that it will be discontinuing the Civic and CR-V models from its Indian portfolio owing to the stoppage of production at its Greater Noida factory.
Currently the firm sells the Amaze, City, Jazz and the WR-V in India and lacks a product in the much popular compact SUV segment that is growing at a tremendous rate.
Since the present generation HR-V sold overseas is nearing the end of its life cycle, and since the Japanese firm is busy testing its successor overseas, it is the new model that will make its way to India.
The 5-seater car, some might argue is more of a crossover, is expected to feature Honda’s latest global design language, meaning it will look premium, and grow a bit in comparison with the current model, as well.
It is expected to come with all-LED lighting, a tall stance with enough ground clearance, and a whole host of latest gizmos inside to keep occupants entertained and of course, there will be latest safety features on offer as well.
When it comes to the powertrain, had the current-generation HR-V been put on sale in India, it would have borrowed the Civic’s petrol and diesel engines.
While the new HR-V might make use of the same powertrains, it is possible that new engines, like a 1.5-litre hybrid petrol, could make their way under the bonnet of the India-spec HR-V too, while there will be a manual and automatic gearbox options.
Set to make its debut in abroad sometime next year, the 2022 Honda HR-V launch in India will mean the carmaker will have a direct rival to cars such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
