Tata Motors will launch a new 2013 version of the Nano in the coming months, sometime before June 2013. This new version is expected to be better equipped with many new features like music system and alloy wheels. With the sales of ‘India’s cheapest car’ dropping alarmingly, Tata is doing all that is possible to improve the public interest in the Nano and get better volumes for the car. The vehicle that Tata thought will change the face of the small car market in India is struggling for even bare minimum sales in the last few months.
The Tata Nano will be launched in a CNG variant as well to make the already fuel efficient car even more light on the pockets to run. The CNG variant should be launched within this year though an exact date is not available. The highly anticipated Tata Nano diesel too is in the pipeline and Tata Motors is almost ready with the production model. But the time frame for the launch is not finalized. The Nano diesel too should be launched sometime before the end of this year.
The sales of the Tata Nano have dropped by almost 73 percent compared to last year and in January 2013 the Nano sold just 1504 units compared to 7723 units January 2012. So Tata Motors are hoping to generate more interest in the masses by making the Nano a bit more premium. It is expected that the Nano should get a few cosmetic upgrades like body graphics and alloy wheels as standard. Plus the interior should be spruced up with a 2-speaker music system and better materials and twin-glove boxes on either side of the speedometer console.
