Several Hero 200cc bikes are set to join the brand’s portfolio in the next 18 months.
Ever since Hero MotoCorp has announced its plans of entering the premium motorcycle segment in India, many people have started to look up to the automaker in anticipation of a high-displacement product. It seems that they won’t have to wait long as Hero plans to fulfil its promise in the next couple of years! The company has now confirmed in an interview that multiple Hero 200cc bikes are queued up to be launched in India in the next 6 to 18 months.
The Hero Xtreme 200R, which can be seen as the first step in this direction, was unveiled some time back and is scheduled to go on sale in the next quarter. However, it seems to be coming with pretty watered-down performance for its class, developing peak power and torque figures of 18.1 HP and 17.1 Nm respectively. Looking forward, the brand plans to add multiple products in the 200cc space in a phased manner. Hero MotoCorp is considering moving higher up the engine displacement ladder too.
At the Auto Expo, the company is expected to come up with Hero Xpulse and XF3R. While the former is an adventure sport sharing its motor with the Xtreme 200R, the latter will be a street-fighter that will make use of a 300cc motor, said to be the brand’s most powerful one yet. Other than these, a few scooters will also be showcased. Hero MotoCorp is focussing on achieving competitive prices and believes to capture a significant market share in higher capacity segment (over 200cc) as it did in the commuter space.
