News highlights of the day include MG Motor, Renault, Audi, Lexus, Tata and GMC.
MG Hector – The Chinese automaker has introduced the MG Hector BS6 petrol version which is priced from Rs. 12.74 lakhs for the base Style trim and goes up to Rs. 17.44 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom) for the top end Sharp DCT trim. There is a price increase of Rs. 26,000/- on each variant compared to the BS4 model.
Audi A8 – The new generation Audi A8L will be introduced in the Indian market on 3rd February. The luxury German carmaker will launch the flagship one day ahead of the Auto Expo. It will be available with a mild-hybrid V6 petrol engine in India, there will be no diesel engine option.
Lexus – The Japanese luxury carmaker has commenced local assembly operations in the Indian market to get the pricing of their models down significantly. Lexus has commenced local assembly of the ES300h and will soon add the NX300h to their assembly line which has been set in Bidadi plant of Toyota in Karnataka near Bengaluru.
Tata Harrier – The Tata Harrier is getting a big update which will be revealed at the Auto Expo 2020. The SUV is getting new panoramic sunroof, automatic transmission option, power adjustable front driver seat, auto dimming internal rear view mirror, new red colour option and new alloy wheels.
Hummer – The huge SUV is making a comeback with an electric powertrain this time around and the American carmaker has teased the vehicle. It will be showcased in May and will get a 1000 HP electric motor with a claimed 0-100 km/hr in 3 seconds. The electric Hummer will go on sale in the international market starting 2021.
Motor Trivia – Did you know, the Pagani Huayra uses 1400 titanium bolts and each bolt costs $80 (Rs. 5710/-), which means the cost of all bolts in one Huayra is $1,12,000 (Rs. 80 lakhs).
