MotoGP to return to India from 2025, they sign a three-year agreement with UP govt

Gear up adrenalin junkies, suit up bike nerds as MotoGP India is making a comeback. Following the controversy with FairStreet Sports, The Premier motorcycle racing cup has now signed a three-year agreement with the Uttar Pradesh government, confirming the championship’s return to India from 2025 to 2027 at the Buddh International Circuit.

The initial Indian round of MotoGP took place in September 2023. However, the second round, scheduled for September this year, faced multiple issues, including the Indian authorities not paying the required dues. Eventually, the event was called off, with a promise to return in March 2025. With the UP government on board, MotoGP anticipates a stronger commitment from India.

Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary-cum-Infrastructure & Industrial Development Commissioner, highlighted the significance of this agreement: “Bringing MotoGP to Uttar Pradesh elevates our state on the global sports stage and catalyses substantial economic growth across tourism, hospitality and associated sectors. This event will attract visitors worldwide, spotlighting Uttar Pradesh’s prowess in hosting world-class sporting events.

India represents an essential market for MotoGP, boasting a healthy, established audience and hundreds of millions of daily two-wheeler users. This market is vital for manufacturers and the sport itself, positioning MotoGP as the pinnacle of two-wheel racing. All major factory teams, from Ducati to Aprilia, have a sales presence in India. The inaugural Grand Prix at the BIC attracted over 100,000 spectators, showcasing the country’s enthusiasm for MotoGP.

The inaugural round last year succeeded despite several issues, particularly with riders and teams facing issues with visas. But since the government now directly involved, We can expect future rounds to process smoothly.
