Hero has set up a special team to engage with Harley-Davidson India dealers and it is expected that more than a dozen dealers will join Hero’s sales network.
The strategic team consists Hero’s senior executives from departments such as finance, marketing, product development, sales, among several others and will ensure smooth transition of the Harley-Davidson business.
Around 10 of the existing Harley dealers, whose contract with the American firm comes to an end on 31st December, have already signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Hero.
About 3-4 more Harley-Davidson India dealers are also expected to join Hero soon and the whole transition process is expected to get completed over the next week or 10 days.
However, many Harley dealers have been left fuming. They state the compensation announced by Harley is very low and many are contemplating taking legal action against the American entity.
Moreover, Hero MotoCorp is said to have arranged for a hassle-free experience when it comes to service or spare part availability, for Harley customers. A sales, distribution and customer outreach programme will be rolled out soon.
Seen as a win-win for both entities, the agreement between Hero and Harley-Davidson would result in the American brand tapping into the top Indian 2-wheeler maker’s extensive market outreach and manufacturing capabilities.
On the other hand, the Indian firm will make use of Harley’s technology to leapfrog into the lucrative premium motorcycle business that is steadily growing in the nation.
