We’ve seen the really cool guys working with the Mumbai Fire department driving state-of-the-art fire brigades that are extremely large in size and also very capable when it comes to rescuing people and birds. However, in what may seem to be a first of its kind, the Mumbai Fire Brigade department has modified a Royal Enfield Himalayan and are testing its capabilities.
The bike has been fitted with a lot of fire-fighting equipment and the department is aiming to reduce the response time for distress calls by using a 2-wheeler. There’s way too much traffic on Mumbai roads and due to this the large fire trucks get delayed in reaching the locations.
If the Fire department is satisfied by the performance of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, they will use it as an emergency first response unit. The modifications on the bike have been carried out by Brijbasi Fire Safety Systems and the bike gets equipment like 60-litres of water storage, high pressure fire fighting pump, compressed air foam and gel blankets. The bike also gets a first aid kit.
The cost of such a modified Himalayan is approximately Rs. 10 lakhs including all the equipment. If it becomes a success, then fire departments of other cities in India may also start using it.
