Mitsubishi has launched a limited edition of the Pajero Sport in the Indian market. It gets minor changes on the outside and an addition of a new variant.
Mitsubishi is a company which never took the Indian market seriously and got stuck due to its partners in the business. Once a brand known by many for the legendary Lancer is now projected to have exited the Indian market by many. However, it hasn’t exited India yet and is continuing with just one offering, the Pajero Sport. The SUV is popular in the segment and only falls behind the Toyota Fortuner in terms of sales. The low sales figures can be attributed to the minuscule dealer network.
To improve sales, Mitsubishi has launched a limited edition variant of the Pajero Sport which gets some visual tweaks. It is priced at Rs. 25.60 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The changes on the outside comprise of –
- Chrome garnish
- Titanium grey alloy wheels
- 3D decals
- Sun shade protector
- New colour options (Clove brown, Golden beige, Blue & White, Black & White, Yellow & White, Red & White)
The interiors of the SUV remain unchanged and so do the mechanicals. The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine which produces 178 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The automatic gearbox variant however produces 350 Nm of torque. Talking of the automatic gearbox, it now gets an option of a 4×4 system as well which was earlier exclusive to the manual transmission version. This will help it compete better with its competition.
While the Pajero Sport enjoys a fan following considering it carries the very popular Pajero nameplate, the competition offers more than what it has to offer and thus it pales in comparison. While the new Ford Endeavour got launched recently at an attractive price point, the new Toyota Fortuner is expected to arrive sometime later this year. The launch of these new generation SUVs would make Mitsubishi’s offering look from stone age until they launch the next generation Pajero Sport, expected next year.
