This is the tenth generation of Lancer in the Evolution series. Its sharper handling dynamics, great safety features, crisp styling, comfort and cutting edge technology underline the car’s sporting credentials. What really makes the Mitsubishi Evo X so loved across the world? Well lets look at the highlights. Checkout live pictures of the Evo X here.
(a) MIVEC turbo engine – The EVO X is powered by a new 4B11 MIVEC Twin Scroll Turbo all-aluminium engine which is light weight and has low centre of gravity. The vehicle packs a power of 216 kW (294 Ps)@6500 rpm and 366N-m (37.3 kgm)@3500 rpm high torque.
(b) Auto shift and manual shift – Drivers can enjoy smooth auto shift by using D position of the shift lever. The shift transmission timing and speed can be further changed with the TC-SST control modes (normal modes, sports mode and super-sports mode). The steering-mounted magnesium paddle shifters let the driver experience manual like driving. It also offers cruise control.
(c) Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) and Twin Clutch Sport Shift Transmission (TC-SST) – The Evo X remains devastatingly efficient on the road, thanks to intelligence of S-AWC and TC-SST, offering the most engaging and rewarding drives available at any price.
S-AWC is an ingeniously designed new vehicle motion integrated control system based on 4-wheel drive force and braking force. It allows the vehicle to fully respond to the driver’s intent. The driver can select from three control modes – tarmac, gravel and snow. It manages four component systems.
(i) Active Yaw Control (AYC) – The AYC uses a torque transfer mechanism in the rear differential to control torque at the rear wheels. It limits the yaw motion on vehicle body to improve cornering and stability. The system also features the yaw rate control which uses a yaw rate sensor to accurately determine cornering dynamics on a real time basis.
(ii) Active Stability Control (ASC) – It regulates the engine power and braking force at each wheel, stabilizes the vehicle while maintaining the optimum traction. It minimises the vehicle skidding in an emergency evasion and prevents the driving wheels from spinning on slippery surfaces.
(iii) Sports Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) – It prevents the vehicle from locking under sudden braking on slippery surfaces and increases the vehicle’s stability and manoeuvrability during cornering.
(iv) Active Central Differential (ACD) – Using an electronically-controlled hydraulic multi-plate clutch, the ACD evenly distributes basic drive force and optimises front/rear wheel torque split. The ACD produces perfect balance between traction and steering response.
TC-SST – This system marries the sporty response of manual gearbox with the convenience and effort-saving qualities of an automatic transmission. It is capable of lightning-quick up shifts with no drop-off in engine power. It puts odd (1st, 3rd, 5th) and even (2nd, 4th, 6th) gears on separate input shafts. Each of these shafts has its own clutch and, through tight cooperative control with its engine and seamless switches between these electronically-controlled clutches, achieves seamless shifting and acceleration. TC-SST brings together fun of manual gearbox, convenience of automatic transmission and higher economy.
