Mitsubishi India re-entry is finally happening with a new partner. The Japanese carmaker is in talks with a new partner. It is a Jamshedpur based component manufacturer.
They are planning to invest around Rs. 500 crores in Mitsubishi India over a period of time. It will be used for setting up assembly plant in Jamshedpur. Currently Hindustan Motors doesn’t have its own manufacturing plant in India.
Until now Mitsubishi Japan has always decided the products and pricing for India. With this new innings, Mitsubishi India wants to take charge for the products and pricing that will be offered in the coming future.
They plan to get their cars via CBU initially and then later assemble the products locally. For now, Mitsubishi India re-entry is being planned with Hyundai Creta and Toyota Fortuner rivals. They are also considering to bring Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eclipse Cross in India.
As of now they had only two cars on sale – Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Outlander. Both of these are no longer available since they’re not BS6 compliant.
The new range of products will offer both petrol and diesel engine options. Manual and automatic transmission choice will be given as well. Eventually they might also come up with a sub 4-metre car for India.
The Japanese carmaker needs to work on their dealership and service network as well. Currently they have only 11 functional outlets in India. Before 2022 when the production starts, they plan to have a dealership number in triple digits.
