Mini is finally confirmed its plans to enter India. The British automaker plans to enter the country with the launch of three cars in 2012. The Mini hatchback which will be launched in India will be second generation model and will compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Beetle, Fiat 500 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz B-Class. However, Mini plans to be go one up on its competitors and is conducting feasibility tests for the local assembly of Mini vehicles at BMW India’s Chennai facility. The company plans to set up its own independent dealership network and will offer buyers with both petrol and diesel engines in the Mini range. Expect prices to start at Rs. 15 lakhs for the base Mini Cooper.
“We will come to India with the hatchback, convertible and Countryman range of vehicles at a very competitive price tag,” Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing, said at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
