MG SUV for India will be based on Baojun 530 with two engine options.
MG Motor has started testing the first close-to-production spec SUV in India. This SUV will be based on Baojun 530 and it will be bigger than the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson, it is also expected to be feature loaded.
This MG SUV will be sold in India soon with two engine options – a 1.5-litre direct injection petrol engine that generates 168 BHP and 250 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, which is being tested in India. The SUV will also come with a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to an automatic transmission.
The dimensions of this vehicle will be 4655 mm in length, 1835 mm in width and 1760 mm in height. With this measurement, MG’s SUV will be slightly bigger than the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle will be introduced in a five-seat configuration at first. However, there are rumours about seven and eight-seat configurations which will be added later on.
The SUV will receive a premium interior with a three-layered soft-touch dashboard as we reported earlier. The SUV will also get a free-standing infotainment screen, TFT display, leather seats and a panoramic sunroof.
MG Motor India is slotting this SUV between the Hyundai Creta and the Tucson. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 10 lakhs for the base petrol variant and the top of the line diesel variant will go up to Rs. 16 lakhs (ex-showroom).
