The first SUV for India by MG Motor was recently spied during a TV commercial shoot.
The MG Hector SUV has already been spied in India. However, the production spec model was recently spotted without any camouflage while at a shoot which could be for its TV commercial.
The MG Hector is still receiving the final touches, before the automaker can launch it. The MG Hector shares it body panels as well its underpinnings with the Baojun 530 SUV. However, the SUV has received a few more tweaks to make it ready for the Indian market. A new signature grille sporting a honeycomb like design and a big ‘MG’ logo in the centre. Additionally it gets a chrome trim on the front bumpers and faux aluminium skid plate, both on the front and rear bumpers. Additionally, the India-bound Hector gets LED projector lamps, LED DRLs and a shark-fin antenna.
The MG Hector will be drawing its power from a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine which is sourced from FCA. The Transmission duties will be carried by a dual-clutch automatic gearbox which has been developed in-house by MG-SIAC and will be mated to the petrol engine. There will be a 6-speed manual gearbox on offer too. The gearbox is said to come with Sport mode and paddle-shifters.
The upcoming MG Hector is said to be loaded with features to make it an appealing buy for the Indian consumers as it will sit against the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and Hyundai Creta which happen to be in the same price bracket. Additionally, the Hector will be offered with a choice of two sunroofs. The bottom-end trims will get a smaller one and the high-end trim gets the largest in-class panoramic sunroof. The SUV will also get a large 10.4-inch tablet style touchscreen enabled infotainment system along with climate-control adjustment.
Furthermore, the MG Hector will get a 360-degree camera, Harman Infinity audio system with four speakers and four tweeters along with a subwoofer, steering mounted controls, push-button start and key-less entry. Cruise control and a tyre-pressure monitoring system could also be on offer. The interiors will also get leather upholstery along with soft-touch materials on the door panels and the dash.
The MG Hector is expected to go for sale in India by mid-2019. The company is in the process of getting its showrooms ready and the inaugurations are expected to happen in the coming few months.
