The MG Gloster will come with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine when it gets launched in India. The automaker’s flagship would not come with a petrol motor option initially.
Developed in-house by SAIC, parent firm of MG, the new engine is a 4-cylinder unit that produces a maximum power of 218 HP and 480 Nm peak torque. This is higher than the Gloster’s nearest competition by a healthy margin.
For example, the Toyota Fortuner makes 175 HP and 450 Nm from its 2.8-litre diesel, while the Ford Endeavour produces 170 HP and 420 Nm from its 2.0-litre diesel.
Also, it is said that the same engine is set to be introduced in the Hector by 2022, most probably in a lower state of tune to differentiate between the two models. At present, the engine in the Hector displaces 1956cc and makes 170 PS and 350 Nm.
Paired to the MG Gloster engine would be an 8-speed automatic gearbox and, should they wish to do so, drivers would be able to take manual control via the paddle shifters.
Other features we know the car will come with include on-demand 4-wheel drive, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which will include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistance, among others and off-road modes as well.
Interior of the car has also been spied recently and it will get a digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice command function, a panoramic sunroof, captain chairs in the second row, and more.
Expected to come with a price tag of Rs. 40-45 lakhs (ex-showroom), the MG Gloster will create its own space in the full-size SUV segment. Launch will take place by October this year.
