MG has launched the Gloster with a starting price tag of Rs. 29 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India and has placed the car in a class of one.
The brand’s flagship for India is a full-size SUV that can accommodate three rows of passengers. It can be had either as a 6-seater or a 7-seater and comes loaded with lots of tech and safety features as standard.
Available in four variants namely – Super, Sharp, Smart and Savvy the Gloster comes as standard with features such as LED headlights with auto-levelling, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth music, calling features, leatherette upholstery, soft touch material on dashboard and door cards.
Of course, the three other variants build up on the standard features, with the top-spec Savvy variant also getting Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which is a package of Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Automatic Parking Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Further, the car comes with over 70 i-Smart 2.0 connected car features among various others such as ambient lighting and panoramic sunroof, in its seemingly inexhaustible list of features on offer.
Standard safety features that the MG Gloster price will get customers include dual front, side and full-length curtain airbags, ESP, TC, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Roll Movement Intervention, Hill Hold Control and Hill Descent Control.
Powering the MG Gloster are two diesel engines. Both of them are 2.0-litre units, with the single turbo diesel putting out 163 PS and 375 Nm, while the twin turbo unit makes 218 PS and 480 Nm.
While both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the lower powered car can only be had in 2-wheel-drive, while the twin turbo diesel comes equipped with 4-wheel-drive and also gets the terrain selection feature.
Only four colour options are offered by MG on the Gloster and they are Agate Red, Metal Black, Metal Ash and Warm White.
With the launch of the premium SUV, MG is competing directly against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour with an aggressive price tag. Gloster’s price list includes Rs. 50,000/- for My MG Shield Customisation.
