MG Gloster facelift to gets substantial visual changes, launch in 2024
MG Motor India has commenced testing the Gloster facelift. The prototype has been spotted wearing heavy camouflage, hiding the big changes on the exterior. The updated SUV is expected to go on sale by early next year to make it more competitive in the segment.
We all know that the king of this premium SUV segment is the Toyota Fortuner. The battle was quite fierce when the Ford Endeavour was in the game but after the American carmaker shut operations, the Fortuner is enjoying the monopoly. However, there are still a lot of buyers who prefer the MG Gloster over the Japanese SUV which is relatively overpriced when compared to the Gloster.
To make the Gloster more relevant in the segment, this much needed update will hit the showrooms in the next few months. Looking at the spy shots, we can notice a new rear profile with revised tail lights, new bumper and repositioned reflectors. The tail gate looks tweaked as well, which means there are some sheet metal changes in the facelift.
Notice the new diamond cut alloy wheel design. It looks more sharp and will add to the fresh appeal of the facelift. There are no images of the front profile but since this will be a big facelift, we can expect MG to offer new redesigned headlights, new grille and updated bumper design.
The interior too is likely to get major changes with some new elements on the dashboard, new colour scheme for the upholstery and of course updated features to make it more desirable.
MG Motor will continue to offer the same engine options. These include a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 161 HP and 375 Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 215 HP and 480 Nm torque. The engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. There are no petrol engines on offer.
The MG Gloster facelift will continue to rival the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kushaq and Jeep Meridian in the Indian market. What is your choice in this segment? Let us know in the comments section.
