The recent off-road video showcasing MG Gloster 4WD system’s abilities makes one thing clear, and that is the car is not made just to pootle around town in comfort, but also to tackle hard terrains when the need arises.
MG has been upping the ante ahead of the launch of what would be its flagship SUV in India. While earlier videos released by the manufacturer was to showcase the car’s high-tech features, this one shows the brute capabilities of the vehicle.
In the video, the driver of the car is shown putting it through its paces in rocky terrain, and also over sand and water, clearly giving a thorough workout for the on-demand 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system.
Clearly, the car’s terrain modes, namely – Rock, Sand, Mud and Snow (selected through a toggle), were helping the driver out. Also aiding the SUV to go through hard terrain is the differential lock and five-link integral rear suspension.
Wading abilities of the SUV can also be seen clearly in the video and it would be a shame if the car did not get out of tricky situations since MG Gloster 4WD system is named “intelligent” by the manufacturer.
If at all owners of the Gloster wish to take their car off the beaten track, they would be able to do so surrounded by a plush cabin and sitting on comfortable seats that also have massaging functionality (at least for the driver).
Also offered with the Gloster will be a 12.3-inch infotainment system, ambient lighting, advanced driver assistance features like emergency braking and parking assist and a whole host of safety features.
Powering the car would be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol motor churns out 220 PS and 360 Nm, the oil burner makes 212 PS and 480 Nm. Transmission options expected on the car include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
When it gets launched this festive season, the Gloster is expected to sit in a class of its own, with a price range between Rs. 40-45 lakhs (ex-showroom).
